Heatwaves are deadly for flying foxes 🦇 During the recent heatwave with temperatures reaching 42°C we assisted Bat Rescue SA for 2 hours by helping with misting bats to prevent mass fatalities. Misting is done by spraying water above the bats allowing it to gently trickle down over them. This mimics rainfall and cools their bodies without soaking or stressing them which is critical during extreme heat. Sadly in temperatures like this many bats don’t survive.
