Sergeant Daniel W. Crowley was a World War II veteran who survived three and a half years as a prisoner of war and slave laborer after the Philippines fell to Japan in May 1942. Prior to his capture, Crowley defended an airfield near Manila, and fought off Japanese forces on the Bataan Peninsula and the island of Corregidor.
